This is a delicious way to end your meal while enjoying the virtues of eating fruit (or mostly fruit) for dessert. I have been making this on and off for over 20 years and it is always refreshing. Truth be told, I did blog this in the early years before I had a camera.....
However, this is entirely too good to sit in the archives without a photo to entice you.......
Bananas in Orange Caramel Sauce
Bananas in Orange Caramel Sauce
by the seat of my pants
1/2 an orange
2 green tipped bananas
1 T butter
2 T brown sugar
vanilla ice cream
Juice the orange, pour into a flat saute pan along with the butter and brown sugar.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until the orange juice has reduced and the mixture has a syrupy thickness.
You want a green tipped banana for this recipe.
Diagonal slices are easier to work with and look lovely on the plate.
Peel bananas and slice thickly on the diagonal.
Fold bananas into the sauce, however do not cook.
Fold into the orange caramel sauce and heat gently - but do not cook- you want firm banana slices.
A beautiful fruit dessert your family will enjoy!
Place a spoonful of sour cream (or the dairy selection of your choice) on the serving plate, sprinkle with cinnamon. Spoon banana slices and sauce around the sour cream. Serve immediately.
