My Husband's Chocolate Sugar Stir-in for Morning Mochas!

Welcome to Our Sunday Café, we are pleased you stopped by for a visit. Today we are offering another delicious recipe from our kitchen. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did…

Every morning we have coffee together, my husband and I. It is not fancy or even a specialty blend, but it is fresh, strong and served promptly as the indicator sounds with five little beeps. My morning coffee is something I look forward to each and every day. In a big mug, with half and half, nothing else. Some days I wake so early I have to wait for coffee because my husband is not awake as yet. But trust me, at a certain point, the coffee maker is started, and I simply wake him up, because it is time for coffee!

My Husband's Chocolate Sugar Stir-in for Morning Mochas!
As you can tell from the previous paragraph, my husband does not have the passion for his morning cup of coffee that I do?  He is more interested in the sweet side of the morning coffee business, namely, the chocolate that goes in his cup, for every cup. As it turns out, he really does not like just coffee but has learned if he puts enough sugar and chocolate in his cup, coffee tastes good!

We have tried many different ways to get his coffee just the way he likes. Let's see, we have used a commercial cocoa mix, chocolate ice cream syrup, and homemade chocolate syrup. Each has its pluses and minuses. For me, the biggest problem was running out of one of those and it had not been added to the shopping list. So. There. Was. None. For. His. Coffee!

Then I ran across the Cocoa Mix from  Little House Living and felt it held promise. I really liked that it is intended to be added to milk, to make cocoa. The benefits, of course, are that you can use your preferred type of milk (whole, 2%, etc.) and you may make the cocoa as strongly flavored as you like. But I have to be honest, I knew that I would have to adapt the recipe for my husband, in order for his preferred style, which is sweet! But, on the other hand, we are using this to make a morning Mocha beverage, my guess is, this has less sugar than the commercial mixes we were using...

1 1/2 c sugar
1 c dry cocoa powder
1 t salt

Combine all ingredients until mixed completely, you may mix with a whisk by hand or use a food processor. Store in a covered container.

To use, add 2 to 4 tablespoons to the bottom of a coffee mug, add half & half or milk (about 1/4 cup) and fill with coffee.

    1. I am with you, no sweet coffee! But every now and again, I love a good mocha or even hot cocoa and this mix, does both. Thanks for stopping by!
